Today, 26th December 2023 is observed as Veer Bal Diwas to honour the sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons.
Guru Govind Singhji and his sons sacrificed their lives to uphold their faith, conviction and refused to bow down to Mughals’ force for the conversion.
Shlok No.35 of Chapter 3 of the Bhagvad Gita reads as follows:
श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात्स्वनुष्ठितात्।
स्वधर्मे निधनं श्रेयः परधर्मो भयावहः।।
Guru Govind Singhji and his sons lived by the above shloka, which says it is better to die in one’s own Dharma than to adopt other’s Dharma.
May God bless us with the wisdom to live and die in our own Dharma, notwithstanding deficiencies in it, if any!
