The best way to change a rational man is not be advising or sermonising, but by planting a seed of thought/idea in his mind.
A person of reasonable intelligence will ponder/contemplate over it and accept or reject that thought/idea.
Many a times, throwing a challenge also works wonders, especially with youngsters. If challenged, a human is ready to work hard, take risks, fight odds and do everything to succeed. Our mind (especially, young) works strangely. It loves challenges and gets thrilled in winning difficult battles.
